Hope for the Weary

Isaiah 40:28-31 (KJV) 28 Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding. 29 He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. 30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: 31 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Hope for the weary

For us it was another day to do what God has created us to do.  Actually, not everyone knows what that is, and for everyone it looks different. I am talking about purpose in God and answering the great commission to go into the world and make disciples according to Matthew 28: 19-20.

“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Again, I know what my purpose is for today and together the group executed on that….

As you probably know, Camden has been on my mind and has been a city that I carry spiritually and often sought the Lord to get an understanding of why it is a forgotten city.

Geographically Camden is located between two great cities near the riverbed.  The city of Philadelphia on one side of the river and the other is the city of Collingswood. Both neighboring cities have its own troubles but it seems different from Camden.

There seem to be a spirit of depression over the city.

The answer I will never know and could be very much debatable.

However, as part of the will of God for the day Prayer Works Evangelism Outreach Ministries was there today. We had planned from weeks ahead that we would serve breakfast today.

It was wet and rainy and all seem dead when we got there.  We saw one woman who lived in her wheelchair on the road.  Her name is Laura. We prayed with her and asked if she needed something to eat and a change of clothes.

She took the coffee and the sandwich and told us her clothes size. Luckily, we had her size.  She was happy.

After we got back to the car with the food and clothing, we thought we would go to another location to feed and pray. We had one person, and then it turned into two before we knew it we were feeding several persons. We were ministering to one need after another.

It was nothing extravagant but God used us to be his hands and feet for the day touching lives, which had been forgotten.

It is funny how we take for granted the fact that we can afford coffee of our choice and food.  For others they wait for people to show up with a kind heart and they eat what is provided.

There were a series of events, which lead to us doing this.

You see, I always felt that God needed more out of me and that I was created to be more than just an ordinary person.

Spiritually, I was obese.

Sunday after Sunday, I would go to the house of God and I would eat but there was no spiritual exercise (outlet) to release all that I have been hear and reading since I was a child.

You see, I was spiritually overweight and I had to do something about that through the help of the Holy Spirit.   I pledged that I would start pouring out into others.  This created a balance, a spiritual workout from all the eating of the word.

Hence, I start ministering in every situation, the good, the bad and the indifferent. I am the church and the church is within me therefore everywhere I go, it is affected by the God in me.

My counselor once said, “When I show up I carry the authority of God.” It took root in my spirit and now it bearing fruits.  The atmosphere will never remain the same. When I show up, because Christ lives in me people want to tap into their best and are motivated to be the best them.

All of us are change agents for Christ. How much we believe this and act on it is another thing. However, it does not change the facts.

What are you doing to help the weary in spirit today?

You might never be able to go to Camden or to a foreign country is there a “Camden” near you?  Can you use what God has given you to make a difference?

I mean will you activate your talent for the Kingdom.

One sure thing I know is when you do the will of God it brings peace and you can rest in the fact that he leads us beside still waters and He is the great shepherd.

Do what God is calling you to do and leave the outcome and everything else to Him.

Making your life Counts through Jesus

Philippians 4:6 “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.”

Time after time, I would know what I want and would pray and the exact thing happens.

Well, tonight is no different.

For months I have been carrying the need of Camden because I have been exposed to the life and what goes on right below my very posh city Voorhees.

When I volunteered for a local government school in Berlin, I would have to go to meetings in Camden.  What is surprising is that the city is known for everything evil and corrupted and everyone seems to be OK with it. Moments in my quite time with the Lord, I would see myself teaching Sunday school and eating with the little children in Camden.

I often pray for a connection to get my foot in Camden to teach inner city children about the love of God.  I said if I do not find any connect I am just going to find a nearby open area and just go talk and pray with the people in the streets.

Earlier I did just that, drove my car into the city and prayed for divine appoints. Exactly that happened.

You cannot go to Camden and not be taken aback by the sadness that grips the city and the horror stories that the body images and the facial expressions tell.

Last month at our Prayer meeting with Pastor Timothy at the Ardmore United Methodist Church, he asked me if I know anyone who would need baskets for Thanksgiving. I thought about Camden.

Well, today the basket were ready and it was time to deliver them to the people we have prayed for.

My friends I tell you it was a real joy to see the expressions of hope and gratitude in the families’ eyes.

Often times we take it for granted that we have … but there is a world just next-door that does not have the necessities to get through the day.  Many times next door is not overseas.

We have a lot to be grateful for.

I thank God for his provisions for his people.  One woman by the name of Louis said, “Tonight’s act of kindness confirms God’s faithful to supply their basic needs.  She was ecstatic.

Again, no matter what the need is, God will make a way.  He is waiting to hear from you and ready to act in righteousness.

In the end, it all comes together.  Only what is done for Christ will last forever.

Ask yourself the question, where can I make a difference? What can I do to make my life counts for Jesus?

Start with praying and asking the Holy Spirit to reveal to you God’s will for your life and when it is revealed, be obedient and act swiftly.

Real joy and contentment is found when you actually find your purpose in Christ.

As always, please let us know how we can help pray for you.
