More of You OH Lord

Today is another day to give God glory and to reflect on what area He is trying to mature us through. As Christians, it is absolutely necessary for us to be engaged in an active working relationship with God. All of us can achieve this but there are some deliberate steps to take to ensure Godly success.

As the Deer Pants for the WaterGoogle Image

In His Presence
Let us practice to be in his presence. Set small goals and celebrate accomplishments. Share with others how you are doing in this area minutely, hourly, daily, weekly and monthly. Soon this will become a habit.

For example if you have never spent time reading the Word or praying to God.

1.    Take a moment, preferably as you wake up to read a verse in the Bible

2.    Talk to God about what to read and ask Him to reveal how He wants you to talk with him.

3.    Listen to what is coming in your spirit or mind (Godly things according to the fruits of the spirit in Galatians 5:22-23 and Philippians 4:8)

This could be 3-5 minutes. As you continue, the time will become more and there will be a genuine desire to spend more time talking to God and reading his word. It will be like when you have fallen in love with someone and you cannot wait to see and be with that special person. The Psalmist David captured it very well in Psalm 42:1 NIV “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God.”

Living a Godly life takes deliberate practice through the help of the Holy Spirit. Keep a journal, write your strengths in the Lord, and write your weaknesses too. Talk to him about them and take deliberate actions to hold yourself accountable in both areas.

Accountability Necessary for Growth

If there is a mentorship, discipleship, coaching or counseling program, at your church seek the Lord and actively seek to be involved in order to be delivered, set free from your past and to help with being developed at various levels in your walk. Being accountable is a necessary step for becoming mature in your Christian walk. This is not just for new believers but again it is necessary for all levels in your walk.

What have you actively done today to ensure you are walking in covenant with Him?

Personal Testimony

I love you and appreciate all that you do to enhance the kingdom of God.

I am practicing to listen more to what He is saying to me. So while doing everything, my spirit and mind is communing with him. I actively invite The Lord to be in what I do, work or play and before even engaging I will ask God, if this is his will.

Why?

I want to be a leader that is different in that even when I am pressed, cast down, neglected or rejected, righteousness and holiness will always shine through. I have come a far way in this area. In the past, I would defend myself in every way possible to ensure there are no misunderstandings where I am concerned. Today, if there is an issue and there is an opportunity for clarification, I will do so and if there is no opportunity, I leave it to God and seek him to help me understand “the why” behind the issue and “what”, His will in it for me is.

Sometimes the learning is to be still and track my growth or to see where there is a deficiency. Other times it is to teach me to listen, be patient, trust him, and be obedient or just to exercise mercy and forgiveness.

God, through the Holy Spirit is helping and I am maturing in this area daily.

Prayer

I pray that today we will become closer to God and that his voice will be our guiding light. I love you and I will continue to pray for you and ask that you pray for me

When GOD Doesn’t Answer Prayer How “We” Think HE Should by Olayemi E. Ogunbase

I prayed, quoted Scripture, fasted, all things I thought would get God to move in the way I wanted Him to. I thought that having worship music going 24/7, attending the prayer meetings at church and joining prayer groups on Facebook would get Him to move how I wanted.

Re-read the last part of the previous sentence. “Get Him to move how I wanted”. And THAT was the problem. It was based on what “

God is patient and kind...

I” wanted, not His will. I (like many of us) found a Scripture that lined up with my particular want & latched on to it. Please understand me, there is nothing wrong with holding on to a Scripture & asking in faith. But what WE want cannot be more important than what HE wants.

He sees our situation through a lens and view that our minds cannot begin to grasp. He sees the prayer request and us through perfect eyes. In addition to that, He not only sees the immediate impact of granting/not granting the prayer request, but the long term, ETERNAL ramifications.

Imagine with me for a moment: You have a 16 year old, newly licensed driver who comes to you saying “Dad (or Mom…I’m a man, so I use “Dad”), for my first car, I would like a Porsche 911 Turbo.” You not only own a Porsche dealership and could easily make this request happen, but the joy that would spread across your child’s face would be a beautiful thing.

But, you know your child. Although there is nothing wrong with a Porsche 911 Turbo in and of itself, that same piece of machinery with an inexperienced driver behind the wheel has the potential to not only destroy the driver, but any passengers in the vehicle and other drivers/pedestrians out on the road.

Our Lord knows us better than we know ourselves. He also knows that many times we will pray for something permanent as a reaction to temporary discomfort, even if that discomfort is actually for our benefit, and will bring us something far better than what we want or THINK we want.

I remember recently praying for a particular job. I wanted this job because of the salary it provided, and also because I thought I would be able to handle working the overnight/graveyard shift, freeing me up for a 2nd part time job during the day. I would have grown sick of the duties in this job in rather short order, and probably would have had a nervous breakdown working a full time graveyard shift job and another job. But all I could see was the pay.

My Father in Heaven answered this prayer with a resounding NO on a Wednesday. I tell you…I was UPSET! Have you ever seen a 31 year old man throw a temper tantrum? God did that day. It was not the finest moment of my walk. I calmed down, and began looking online. I looked for the next four days. On that 4th day, a Saturday, I was scouring job postings and found one that I had missed. I did a double take, because the position for this particular posting paid MORE, offered greater stability and fewer hours. On top of all that, I instantly knew (based on the description) I would like it far more than the previous job I just “HAD to have”. I prayed, put it in His hands, applied, interviewed and GOT THE JOB. I have been with this company since October 8, 2012 and have NEVER enjoyed going to work as much as I do now. Each day, I don’t “have to go to work”. I GET to go to work! I know the Lord blessed me with this position, but also the joy that comes with diligent work unto Him. To top it off, the company called a meeting the other day where they announced “We’ve decided to give you (the staff) 9 additional days of paid time off”.

The point is this. Had the Lord answered my prayer my way, He could have orchestrated it for my good. It could have been okay. But when He answered my prayer for stable employment in HIS way, it was, is and has been “exceedingly and abundantly more than all I could ask or think” (Ephesians 3:20).

I close with a command. Get your Bible and go to Proverbs chapter 3, verses 5 and 6. Memorize them and believe in the truth of those words MORE than you believe in gravity.

I love you.

In Him,
Yemi

Saying Thank You

1 Corinthians 1:4 I give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God that was given you in Christ Jesus

Lyn, thank you so much for the work you put into this blog.  You are truly a blessing.  When the Holy Spirit told me in the parking lot at Word Fellowship Church that we would be working because of our passion to pray and to encourage others. I had no idea that it would be to this end.

When we met at Coffee Works Cafe on Monday June 4, 2012 at 2:00 pm. It was divine and though no one would truly understand what happened that day. Slowly, but surely everyday its unfolding.  We gave birth to Prayer Works Cafe two weeks later on June 28, 2012.

Today, we have a group on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/debbie.millercurtis#!/groups/prayerworkscafe/ , a Tweet Account: https://twitter.com/PrayerWorksCafe, an Email Address: prayerworkscafe@gmail.com and the Blog: http://prayerworkscafe.org/. God you are great.

Lyn and I are overwhelmed with his blessings daily.
